BRYAN CROCKFORD B.Ed/B.P.E. - THEORY AND FIELD SKILLS INSTRUCTOR

Scot TaylorI began teaching adventure tourism at Camosun College in 1997.  After 2001, I continued with Phil and Scot to develop and operate the Sooke Adventure Tourism College. As a career path it has been a dream come true.

I grew up on the west coast of British Columbia working in the outdoors, and adventuring extensively in western Canada particularly with the BC mountaineering club, the Alpine Club of Canada and Outward Bound.  I also traveled the globe searching for adventure on the land and water, from Mount Everest to The Great Barrier Reef.  This set the stage for a life long career in Adventure Tourism. I received my education in Vancouver and Calgary, and focused my Post Secondary education in Music from Douglas College, a Diploma in Outdoor Recreation from Capilano College, and Degrees in kinesiology, Outdoor Pursuits and Education from the University of Calgary.

Since 1986, I have been an educator at such institutions as Lester B. Pearson College, Camosun College, Outward Bound, the University of Calgary, the Calgary Board of Education, the Red Cross, and several outdoor recreation businesses, and public and private institutions.

For the past four years I have immersed myself in First Nations education, teaching on the Nitinaht reserve.  This has been a challenging and rewarding experience. This has been combined with directing and instructing at Sooke Adventure Tourism College since it’s beginning.

My specialties at the College include Wilderness First Aid, Applied Leadership, Weather Systems, Landforms, Canoeing, Customer Service via bicycle touring, as well as Heritage Arts and Survival Skills.  This course is unique to the College and has become an essential course for students.

I also operate my own business in First Aid, Risk Assessment and Emergency Response Training and have ongoing contracts in BC and Australia.

I am a searcher and I encourage others to never stop searching…and growing.
